What is sinus?

Sinus is also known as “par nasal sinuses”; sinuses are grouped air cavities situated along a part of the head bone called the cranial. The sinus comes into contact with the nose and creates a mini network where the mucus will be allowed to drain and the air to pass freely. Most people with sinuses tend to say that, “their nose is blocked,” in reality it is their sinus that is not draining properly.

There are 4 pairs of sinus cavities. Individual sinuses have what we call an ostium/opening which allows for the exchange of air freely. Our mucus walls have fine hairs that trap and move out dirty mucus away from our sinus and it is drained away to the nasal passageways. The biological term for these cells is ciliated epithelium.

So what causes sinus? When the body experiences a disturbance in any of the workings outlined above, sinuses are sure to erupt. Dust for example can disturb the process and is known as the foe of sinus. Smoking and drug abuse have a detrimental effect to our sinus and should be avoide. Smokers tend to have increase sinus congestion in relation to non-smokers and the effect of sinus can be reversed from 20 minutes after the smoker’s last cigarette.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a known disorder whereby a person will have slight pauses in their inhale of air or perhaps constant shallow inhales and exhales of air during their nap. The scary part about sleep apnea is that these breath pauses are able to last between a couple of seconds up to a minute. What’s even more disturbing about sleep apnea is that it occurs Five to Thirty times within an hour.  At times the sufferer will produce a choking sound if there is an overlap in either inhale of exhale.

Sleep apnea is chronic and it interrupts ones sleep. Those who suffer from sleep apnea tend to get very low quality of sleep because when it occurs, they find themselves moving into a light sleep and then deep sleep again. These sleep apnea patterns do not contribute to good health and often leave you feeling exhausted during the day. The immune system for one needs a good rest to function at optimal.

Most people might not know this but sleep apnea is the forefront cause of daytime fatigue. Since the problem occurs during sleep, most people will not be aware that they have such a debilitating disorder. Sleep apnea can however be noticed by a bed partner. Snoring also can be one symptom of sleep apnea. Being overweight is also sleep apnea conducive.

Snoring away at night?

If most bed partners were asked “which noise at night irritates them the most during their sleep?” Snoring would have to take first place compared to anything else. Snoring can be quiet annoying to the one besides you and some people have been reported to snore so loud that others can hear the snoring from the other rooms. Snoring is also closely associated to sleep apnea – which is basically pauses within breathing.

Snoring is that harsh noise produced while a person sleeps and is usually created when these individuals breed through their mouth. The soft tissue situated at the roof top of their mouth vibrates when the air is passed out of their mouth, producing the snore sound. It is not uncommon to find the cheeks, hand-in-hand with the lips and the nostrils all producing this orchestra in one go!

Sleeping on the side does tend to cut the snoring for most people because now of the positioning of the tongue and airways. The following problems are factors that cause snoring: weak throat, mis-positioned jaw, excess fat surrounding ones throat, alcohol and drugs. These are just a few but not the only factors that lead to snoring. Snoring should not be confused with sleep apnea even though the two do have a correlation.

What is urticaria?

Typically known as hives, urticaria is a condition of the skin. It is the variable intensities of the skin disorder which is characterized by itching lumps that are a reddish brightened color, elevated and raised. The sufferers of urticaria have this ailment because of some allergen; there are many reasons to believe that non-allergens can also cause the problem. Hives or the urticaria condition is not life threatening but can be an indication of some other system problems.

Urticaria causes can be either internal or external. Food is generally the first place where you would check for any allergic reactions towards certain types of food. Some foods have the same ingredients; therefore checking to see if certain types of food with the same ingredient perpetuate the condition will help immensely. Urticaria will only last for a few seconds up to a couple of minutes. Generally it will fade away and a new episode might develop due to persistent contact with the allergen. It is rare to have the urticaria problem prolong for more than 6 weeks on average. If so this could be a sign of an underlying problem.

Medications can also cause hives and these medicines are best explained to you in detail by your qualified physician. Caution is required around food products that will invariable provoke the urticaria allergic build-up.

Living With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD, which is the acronym for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and is a disorder found primarily with kids and closely linked to the brains malfunctioning. ADHD is said to be present among 3 – 5% of school kids with a rather disturbing increase being noted. “ADHD brains are like motor spark-plugs that seem to miss the correct firing mechanism,” These are analogies used by some learning professionals like Priscilla Vail. What they say further is that, “ADHD thoughts, make up other thoughts without any mechanism – let alone the correct pathway or discipline.”

There are three well known ADHD symptoms to look out for:

The 1st is inattentiveness: Children with ADHD cannot decipher what is important and filter out what is not vital. Children with ADHD are disturbed easily by little things like odors, noise or sight. The 2nd is Impulsive behavior: This can be dangerous because the child will act and then think after they have acted and does not think of the consequences. The 3rd is Hyperactivity: Constant fidgeting and cannot remain still for any given period of time with a very short attention span.

Recent studies now say that ADHD is more linked to a disturbance with brain functioning.

Asthma is on the increase.

Statistical analytics from WHO – World Health Organization – shows a 40% increase in the hospitalization of asthma victims globally. Why such an increase? The USA Institute of Chest Physicians point towards a drastic increase in domestic pet ownership, incorporate this with tight living spaces and a poor ventilation of apartments.

The Toronto Star indicates that “animal fur, feathers or even skin can directly spark an asthma attack. Dust-mites, carcinogens from cigarette, flower scents and mold can cause asthma attacks. Cat dander is said to be the common allergen. Canada alone host on average 1 million+ of asthmatic sufferers with around 400 deaths yearly. Asthma is still the leading number one allergic killer. However, most people who have asthma can always be assured of living a normal life.

Asthma is perpetuated when free transportation of oxygen to the lungs becomes blocked from moving in and out. Breathing exercises can greatly stimulate the passageway openings through which oxygen travels. Removing the stimuli in the work area and home environment is also vital to decrease unnecessary asthma attacks. Asthmatic sufferers have to be encouraged to live an active lifestyle as far possible. An active lifestyle can never be substituted because it gives increase resistance and promotes a healthier you. Eczema is a mild condition with sparingly severe instances; eczema is the inflammation of the skin caused in most cases by the skin reacting negatively to stimulus or an object. Eczema is not contagious, even though many people believe that it is. Eczema does however, result in physical irritability and can lead to emotional discomfort. Eczema shows up anywhere on the skin, but appears more readily on palms, around the neck, on the forehead and also around the legs. In not so common instances, eczema will start on the lips. Children also develop this problem around their knees, also on their elbows and even wrists. Eczema also can present itself in different environmental settings. Most symptoms start of as a simple itch and then later on develop into eczema rash because of the constant scratching. So itching is the culprit to look out for at first. The eczema rash has a burning sensation; if you start rubbing and scratching, it will form a flaky look. The appearance will differ with age. It may become unbearable when skin stiffens up and begins to crack. If it is not addressed at the onset, sleepless nights kick in due to constant scratching and discomfort. Eczema is treatable by a professional, but prevent ion is better than cure!
